"When one tugs at a single thing in nature,
one finds it attached to the rest of the world"
-John Muir
Ongoing scientific research overwhelmingly demonstrates that climate change caused by the overuse of fossil fuels is one of the watershed issues of the twenty-first century. For this reason we require fresh sources for generating energy and new means for saving it.

This short video from the Pew Project on Energy, Climate and National Security shows the military consensus that fighting global warming is one way to ensure the security of our nation — if left unchecked, global warming could lead to civil strife, economic stress, conflicts over water and other resources, mass migration, and increased terrorism.

Clean Energy Campaigns
Our hunger for energy comes with enormous environmental costs: climate change, oil spills, loss of mountains, and nuclear waste. We do have other options. A clean energy future could be ours. Learn about Clean Energy Campaigns

In most countries the energy supply is heavily reliant on coal, oil, gas and uranium. Coal is the primary way utilities companies create power in the U.S. Coal-fired plants are responsible for 40% of our nation's total carbon dioxide emissions every year. Coal is the single most polluting energy source used in electricity generation.

In the heated debate over offshore drilling, policymakers have only addressed "how much": how much gas and oil, how much tax revenue, and how many new jobs they think it would create. In this vdeo, the Sierra Club's Eileen Levandoski explains that from the standpoint of healthy oceans, pur policy makers have largely ignored the coastal environment and economies that would be subjected to potential harm from new offshore drilling such as off Virginia's coast.

Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation
Making homes, products, vehicles, and businesses more energy efficient is seen as a largely untapped solution to addressing climate change, and reducing our dependence on fossil fuels. Energy efficiency saves energy because of an improvement in technical efficiency, which at the same time provides equal or better performance and comfort. Energy conservation on the other hand is the reduction or elimination of unnecessary energy use and waste. Learn more...

Renewable Energy
Renewable energy is generated from resources that are unlimited, rapidly replenished or naturally renewable such as wind, water, sun, wave and refuse, and not from the combustion of fossil fuels. Renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies are the best overall solutions to climate, energy and economic security for the U.S. and the world. Learn more...
